WARNING: the compressor does not fail by itself. It is therefore very important to understand the causes of its malfunction before replacing it with a new or rebuilt unit to avoid a repeat failure. Common causes in general are: - The relay is not replaced and the compressor keeps running until it seizes; always replace the relay. - Even a very small hole in the air spring, in the height adjustment valves or in the system will cause the system to leak and the compressor to run more than necessary to restore pressure. The larger the hole, the faster the system will discharge. Carefully check for any type of leak. - The compressor draws ambient air through an intake hose that usually has a filter. If this hose or its filter are damaged, the compressor may draw in debris, dust and water, causing internal piston and cylinder damage and corrosion. Check that the hose and filter are intact and dry inside.
