The electronic steering lock unit, coded OE 50154862, is a mechatronic module installed in the steering column. It manages the locking and unlocking of the steering column on ignition on and off, communicating with the immobilizer system and the vehicle CAN network. It is built to Mopar specifications and used on Jeep and Fiat models without manual intervention.

• Jeep Renegade (stage BU/B1/BV), years 2015–2022
• Fiat 500X, contemporary with the Renegade

Both models fit the OE 50154862 steering lock unit as standard, integrated into the security system.

Common faults

1. Steering lock not released

The device sometimes does not automatically disengage the column lock, even with the engine running, preventing free steering.

2. Internal mechanical failure

Internal components such as small motors or gear teeth can wear or seize, preventing correct unlocking or securing of the column.

3. Programming issues

A replacement unit not correctly coded will not communicate with the immobilizer. The result can be the inability to start the vehicle or the permanent locking of the steering wheel.
