ADVICE AND WARNINGS TO FOLLOW BEFORE REPLACING THE TURBO

Before changing the turbocharger, it is essential to understand the causes that led to its failure.

The operations described below, ,are crucial to avoid a second failure and consequently ,a warranty claim.

In case of warranty request, the execution of these fundamental replacement/cleaning operations must be demonstrable through an invoice. If they do not appear, the warranty request will NOT be considered.

 ,

DEPENDING ON THE IDENTIFIED ISSUE, PERFORM THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS FOR A CORRECT REPLACEMENT OF THE TURBO.

 ,

LUBRICATION

- Thorough cleaning and/or replacement of the oil inlet and outlet pipes.

- The turbo failure may have generated metal shavings that circulate freely in the lubrication system. Before carrying out the intervention, replace the lubricating oil along with the respective filter. After completing the intervention, briefly run the engine to facilitate the removal of impurities and change the oil and filter again.

- Check that the oil pump pickup inside the sump is not clogged. If so, clean thoroughly and/or replace the oil pump.

- Check the efficiency and perform a thorough cleaning of the oil vapor recovery valve.

INTAKE ,( The turbo whistles during acceleration )

- Check that the air intake hoses of the turbocharger do not have cracks; if they do, replace them. A small piece of rubber sucked in by the turbo that impacts the impeller at a speed of 100.000 RPM has devastating effects.

- Change the air filter.

- Clean and/or replace the intercooler and its related hoses.

EXHAUST ,( The turbo whistles during release )

- Check the integrity of the internal module of the FAP/DPF/CAT and replace it if necessary. If it is intact, perform an internal regeneration/washing.

- Check the efficiency of the EGR valve. Perform a thorough cleaning of it and the ducts of the exhaust gas recirculation system.

Techinical Info

The turbocharger with code IVECO OE 504269281 belongs to the family of Holset HE431V turbos mounted on FPT/Iveco Cursor 8 engines. It is a component intended for commercial vehicle and bus applications, particularly those based on the Stralis and Trakker platforms. The item shown here is the turbocharger Coreassy assembly.

Technical specifications

  • Turbo family: Holset HE431V
  • Engine application: Cursor 8
  • Turbo architecture: variable geometry
  • Geometry control system: pneumatic actuation managed by the engine system
  • Center housing cooling: oil and water cooling

DIPA can intervene to overhaul these components thanks to its experience and expertise.

Functionality

  • Uses the energy of the exhaust gases to compress the air drawn into the engine
  • Increases the mass of air available in the cylinders
  • Improves torque, low-end performance and response under load
  • Reduces smoke and improves diesel engine efficiency
  • With variable geometry, adapts the effective turbine area according to engine demands
  • Allows better control of boost pressure compared to a traditional turbo with a simple wastegate
  • Works in close integration with the engine management for performance and emissions

Model applications

  • IVECO Stralis/Trakker
  • Astra HD8
  • Irisbus Arway

Typical faults

  • Oil leakage from the turbine
  • Noisy turbocharger both under acceleration and deceleration
  • Smoke from the exhaust
  • Insufficient vehicle performance

Final conclusions

The code OE IVECO 504269281 identifies a turbocharger from the Holset HE431V family intended for Cursor 8 7.8-liter engines, mainly used on IVECO Stralis/Trakker, Astra HD8 and some Irisbus Arway applications. It is a variable geometry unit with pneumatic control integrated into the engine management strategy, designed for heavy vehicle applications compliant with Euro 4 and related evolutions. The Coreassy is the heart of the turbocharger.
