ADVICE AND WARNINGS TO FOLLOW BEFORE REPLACING THE TURBO
Before replacing the turbocharger it is important to fully understand the causes that led to its failure.
The procedures described below are essential to avoid a second failure and, consequently, a warranty claim.
If a warranty claim is made, the execution of these essential replacement/cleaning operations must be demonstrable by invoice. If they are not documented, the warranty claim will NOT be considered.
DEPENDING ON THE PROBLEM FOUND, PERFORM THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS FOR A CORRECT TURBO REPLACEMENT.
LUBRICATION
- Thorough cleaning and/or replacement of the oil inlet and outlet pipes.
- Turbo failure may have produced metal shavings that circulate freely in the lubrication system. Before performing the repair, replace the engine oil and corresponding filter. After completing the work, run the engine briefly to help remove impurities and then change the oil and filter again.
- Check that the oil pump pickup screen inside the oil pan is not clogged. If so, clean thoroughly and/or replace the oil pump.
- Check the condition and perform a thorough cleaning of the oil vapor recovery valve.
INTAKE (The turbo whistles during acceleration)
- Check that the turbo air intake hoses do not have cracks; if they do, replace them. A piece of rubber sucked into the turbo that strikes the compressor wheel at 100,000 rpm has devastating effects.
- Replace the air filter.
- Clean and/or replace the intercooler and its hoses.
EXHAUST (The turbo whistles on deceleration)
- Check the integrity of the internal element of the FAP/DPF/CAT and replace it if necessary. If it is intact, perform an internal regeneration/cleaning.
- Check the efficiency of the EGR valve. Perform a thorough cleaning of the valve and the exhaust gas recirculation system pipes.
